Yet another tragedy unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir when terrorists gunned down two teachers in Srinagar today. Both hailed from the Kashmiri Pandit and Sikh minority. This horrific attack comes less than 48 hours after three other civilians were shot dead by terrorists in separate incidents.
The two victims who were killed on Thursday were teachers of a government school, reported NDTV. The victims have been identified as Deepak Chand, a Kashmiri Pandit and Supinder (Satinder) Kour, a Sikh woman. According to the report, police said, “At about 11:15 am, terrorists shot dead two school teachers at Sangam Eidgah in Srinagar district.” Police have cordoned off the area, and have launched a hunt “to nail the attackers.” According to initial news reports the “terrorists fired from close range at two teachers in a government higher secondary school in the Eidgah area of Srinagar”.

This attack on innocent citizens comes less than 48 hours after a similar one in the Union Territory. On October 5, multiple attacks in Srinagar marked another spike in killings of innocent citizens. The killings were by suspected militants, and have once again exposed the holes in the “there is security and safety” theory of the establishment. According to news reports, the victims were:
– Makhan Lal Bindroo, a well-known Kashmiri Pandit businessman who ran two medical stores in Srinagar, including one started by his family in 1947
– Virendar Paswan, a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar, who had just come to the Union Territory to earn a living and worked as street food vendor in Srinagar, and
– Mohammad Shafi Lone who was a resident of Naidkhai village, and headed Sumo Car Stand, an association of taxi owners in Shahgund village in Bandipora.
