Vikram University in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has formed a committee to investigate allegations against a Muslim professor who has been accused of promoting Islam. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, has announced that complaints had been received against Anis Sheikh, a guest professor at the Institute of Pharmacy. The complaints allege that Sheikh propagated Islam in a WhatsApp group that included members of all communities.

After the allegations, Professor Sheikh has been suspended for 15 days from his job.

The ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad), which is the student wing of the BJP, claims that Anis Sheikh has discriminated against Hindu students by giving better grades to Muslim students in the subject chemistry while frequently giving low marks to Hindu students and sometimes even failing them.

According to Siasat News, Anis Sheikh has denied all of these allegations, and stated, “I cannot discriminate against any student based on their religion. I treat all my students equally and grade them based on their academic performance.” He has stated that students who don’t attend exams have been pressuring him to give them marks over 80-85 percent and this issue has risen after he refused to be pressured to give in to those demands. He has further stated that he has 60 students in his class, out of which only four are from the minority community, as per PTI. “I will present my side before the investigating committee. The allegations against me are baseless.”

The ABVP has also claimed that Anis Sheikh was encouraging religious conversion to Islam among Hindu students through WhatsApp groups, levelling it as an accusation. Shaikh has been a guest faculty at the university for the past 13 years, Professor Shaik has reportedly also told PTI that he had nothing to do with the WhatsApp group the ABVP is talking about, “It is the WhatsApp group of the department and the HOD (Head of the Department) is the admin. I had nothing to do with it. It was a year old post in the chats about Ramadan greetings”. Sheikh has been suspended from his job for 15 days.

The vice-chancellor met the protesting ABVP and assured them that there would be action. He has also announced that a report will be submitted on the allegations within 15 days.

The incident is eerily similar to a case where some Muslims, including a professor at the Indore Law College was accused of ‘Hinduphobia’ in 2022 after the ABVP had accused them. Only last month, May 2024, the Supreme Court moved to quash the FIR and criminal charges against the Indore Law College teacher and a publisher accused of promoting the “anti-national book” in question. The case reached the court after Dr. Rahman, one of the accused, had filed a Special Leave Petition challenging the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s decision to not to stay the FIR against him.

The ABVP had similarly organised protests against Dr. Rahman in the college, accusing Muslim teachers at the college of promoting fundamentalism. The Indore police had then filed the FIR in December 2022 following the ABVP’s that Dr. Rahman had discussed a “controversial” book found in the college’s library. The Supreme Court called the allegations “absurd” and a case of “persecution” and squashed the charges.

Three students’ sustained injuries after an incident of violence took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in Delhi. The incident took place on night on February 29th after the end of a general body meeting at the School of Language.

Numerous videos circulating on social media portrayed a man holding a stick, assaulting students, while another person can be seen throwing a bicycle as scenes of chaos unfold. The security personnel of the university can be seen present as well trying to intervene. In one video a man can be seen hitting a student in the head with a small metallic object. As per reports, the Delhi Police has stated that they have received complaints from both sides regarding the incident, and have confirmed that investigations are currently going on.

According to the Times of India, the vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipadi has stated that strict action will be taken against the culprits no matter what political affiliation they may belong to. She has also stated that once the student’s medical concerns are addressed the university will investigate and even prepare a report on the incident.

Meanwhile, the JNU Student Union’s Joint Secretary Mohammed Danish, who was chairing the meeting, has stated that he received threats due to his religious identity and also claimed that he was held hostage during the incident. The JNU Student Union has claimed that the ABVP organised the entire attack deliberately so that it could, they say, affect the electoral process.

The vice-president of the All India Students’ Association in JNU has stated that this was a “one sided attacked and not a clash.” She describes the events stating, “The election body of School Language was supposed to be elected yesterday. Four names were elected but the ABVP hijacked the entire process. When it resumed and the process concluded. We came to know that they had surrounded Danish and were not letting him leave. We tried to speak with them but they didn’t listen to us and started to launch an attack with sticks. They also hit me on my head. They do this under the protection of VC and the police.”

Meanwhile, ABVP members claims that more than 200 Left workers attacked them.

Similarly, attacks that claim the ABVP as aggressors have taken place earlier as well. In 2023, a student named Nazar Mohammad Mohaideen from Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu a research scholar at the Centre for Molecular Medicine was reportedly attacked by ABVP members during a movie screening on February 19 in 2023, following which he was reportedly harassed by his supervisor at the university who refused to guide him and labelled him a “security threat.” His department also attempted to cancel his PhD, however, it was reversed after the Delhi High Court recently. In 2015, Najeeb Ahmed, a first year MSc Biotechnology student at the university, reportedly “disappeared” after he was beaten and assaulted by the ABVP students in the university.

Late into the evening of Tuesday, July 16, the Academic Council of the Delhi University was “disrupted” by aggressive members of the RSS-affiliate, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). There was a complete gheraoof the RSS-inspired outfits, following which parts of the History and English syllabus dropped under pressure. The meeting ended in pandemonium and teachers had to be smuggled out. A late night message from Professor Nandita Narain, head of the mathematics department at St Stephens and office bearer of the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) alerted persons about the going on last evening.

“We have just got to know that ABVP members are trying to barge into the VC office. They have surrounded the VC lodge and are shouting slogans and demanding that the Heads of Department (HoDs) of History and English along with an AC member Saikat Ghosh be “handed over to them”. It’s pertinent to mention that the AC meeting was supposed to deliberate on the revised under graduate syllabus today.

“While all other syllabi were approved without discussion, the English and History syllabi were stalled by members affiliated to the BJP/RSS teachers’ group NDTF. It was when Professor Saikat Ghosh spoke in the AC meeting in defence of the English syllabus thatthe ABVP tried to enter the Council Hall, immediately thereafter. The Council Hall (has become) a battlefield now between the security personnel of the University and ABVP intruders. Inside the Council Hall, NDTF (organisation of teachers affiliated to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-BJP) members have threatened all the teachers involved in syllabus revision.

“The English and History syllabus sent back to respective departments for incorporating suggestions given by the NDTF (the BJP teacher’s wing). The opposing members of the Academic Council and Heads of Department, History had to exit from back door with ABVP students protesting at the AC meeting. Safe passage given to them but no objection or action against the ABVP, not even condemnation by the Delhi University authorities.”

This Facebook post by Naveen Gaur says it all:
“It was a sad, sad day in the history of DU and the highest statutory bodies of DU.
Firstly the DU administration kept the whole AC waiting for nearly 5 hours(without information) to start off the meeting.

To make situation even worse, ABVP students were allowed (yes they were allowed) to come inside the Vice-Regal lodge (very close to the venue of AC meeting) and many of them even climbed on the roof and were visible from the windows near the top of the hall. This happened in complete know how of DU administration and active collusion of some of the people in administration. The attempt was indeed to use intimidate and force a particular decision.

The DU (Delhi University) administration was in complete collusion with people in power (at centre) and actively supported members of the same affiliation. Even when no-one could listen to what is being passed at least two members of DU administration (including the so called LOCF Chairman) actively colluded and specifically informed the same people (sarkari group) that a particular subject will now be discussed and gave directions to Professors, Deans, Heads to act in a particular way. Another person from DU administration (who is also a Principal in a DU college) actively managed everything inside the council hall.

The head of the English department was heckled, threatened and must say spoke wonderfully well that addressed all the concerns of “sarkari group”. A pretence of discussion was made when already all the courses except English, Political Science and History were supposedly sent back (not with the decision of the AC as in that situation nothing could have been heard and without hearing everything was claimed to have been passed but because of pressure from govt. that was used by “sarkari group”).

As the part of the university we need to think seriously if such brazen and shameless interference of govt. is justified in academic institutions. I will end with a couplet from Rahat Indori

“जो आज साहिबे मसनद हैं कल नहीं होंगे
किराएदार हैं ज़ाती मकान थोड़ी है”

Don’t judge a book by its cover- A recent incident of violence in Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) gave literal meaning to this idiom.

ABVP

A book titled “JNU Diaries” written by Mithilesh Priyadarshi and translated by Amarnath Chandaliya in Marathi created a furore on the SPPU campus on Constitution day, November 26. The book, which has been published by Hariti Publication, became the centre of controversy when ABVP termed its content ‘anti-national’ merely because of the mention of “JNU” in its title.

As per members of Hariti Publication, on November 26, they had organised a book stall in which books with democratic, secular and progressive values were displayed for sale. One of the books was “JNU diaries.”

Reportedly, ABVP members came to the stall and started creating ruckus. Their contention was that JNU Diary propagates anti-national sentiments and promotes “Naxalite ideology”.

Hariti Publication’s representative, Shyam Ghuge, who was present there, tried to calm them down and tried telling them that all of Hariti’s publications had an ISBN number. The said book in question had been published two years back in Marathi and that it wasn’t illegal. He further added that Hariti follows the ideals of Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar, Marx and others. Ghuge also told them that Hariti’s books evoke the thirst for knowledge in the society and take the tradition of different ideologies forward. However, all their pleadings fell on deaf ears and ABVP members continued arguing, after which they resorted to assaulting those who were present there. Allegedly, Shyam Ghuge’s shirt got torn in all of this. Meanwhile, units of other students groups, SFI and NSUI reached there and tried to bring the situation under control and tried to hush away those who were indulging in vandalism.

NSUI member and a student of English Department, Satish Gore said, “While the ABVP students tried to create problems at the stall on Saturday, we feel they are no one to object. The books that were being sold were based on various thinkers. The JNU one, too was informative and had its own thought process. And, as soon as ABVP created a ruckus, the book was immediately bought by many students and was read with interest.”

“ABVP saw only the cover of the book and objected to it. They could have at least read it and then decided to hinder its sale. We have demanded that SPPU should have such bookstalls on campus more frequently that gives readers variety,” he added.

Shyam Ghuge responded by saying, “Hariti Publications believes in disseminating knowledge. We respect the constitution and law. Our books evoke the hunger for democratic values and consciousness and knowledge. Hariti is working towards promoting free, creative thinking in Marathi language and is working to promote social consciousness. We want to build a culture of knowledge and thoughts”

Shyam Ghuge has said that the book stall had been set up as a refresher course was in progress. He added that the book stall will be there on campus till the course goes on. They also said that they had oral permission from the Registrar Prafulla Pawar.

The Registrar commented, “While the decision to set up the book stall would have been taken at the department level, there is no harm in selling a book if it is officially published.”

Ajay Choudhary, a student of the Hindi Department and president of ABVP’s SPPU unit, however, maintains that they “went to check if the publication house had permission to sell books. The book related to JNU has an anti-national reference and should not be sold on campus as it could have a negative impact on students.”

Hariti Publication was started in 2013 with the aim of spreading, what they call “reading cultures.” With the intention of looking at ‘reading as a movement’ they engaged in activities and evolved their slogan, “Intervention, Dialogues and Change.”

They carry their own political affiliations with larger anti-caste, anti-class and feminist movement in India and are trying to produce and circulate progressive material of various scholars and academicians.  Texts that they have published till now, include Gopal Guru, Late Com. Rajiv Kalelkar, Vilas Sonawne, Keshav Waghmare, P. Sainath, Prakash Shirsat, com. Datta Desai, Charu Gupta, Mithilesh Priyadarshi. Some more books of few renowned activists and academicians in various movements are in progress, these include Vidyut Bhagwat, Dilip Chavhan, Suhas Palshikar, Pratima Pardeshi, Sanjiv Chandorkar, Bharat Patankar, Rajkumar Ghogare. Producing and circulating such progressive material in the form of ‘book stall’ is one of the important initiatives taken up by Hariti Publication.

With the aim of making good reading material available as well as developing culture of reading, discussion on the university campus, books published by Hariti are often made available and are circulated on Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus in various programmes. Students on the campus also support this activity.

Hariti Publication members note in a mail communication, “ABVP, a right wing militant organization violently opposing this activity of circulation of progressive reading material is not at all surprising! Violent attack on Hariti book stall and incident of beating Hariti book distributor Shyam Ghuge on November 26 on Savitribai Phule University campus thus can be seen as a part of the series of violent attacks on progressive thinkers, academicians and educational institutions such as JNU, that are taking place especially since BJP government has come into power.  There has been constant attempt by right wing forces to curb the voice of equality and democracy in the form of violent attacks on speeches as well as writings of progressive thinkers, academicians such as Kancha Ilaiah, Gauri Lankesh, Romila Thapar, Kalburgi, Com. Govind Pansare, Rana Ayyub, Dr. Dabholkar, Ravish Kumar, and S. M. Mushrif est.

Hariti Publication has planned to hold a meeting on December 2, 12 pm at SM Joshi Socialist Foundation (parking), Pune and have requested participation from various organisations and individuals.

The recent incident indicates ABVP’s haste and the threat they feel from progressive thinkers and books. Looking at the recent movements for students struggles, JNU’s example, if at all, is a good example of successful students struggles. It appears that this bothers ABVP cadres to an extent that they didn’t think it was necessary to go through the content of the book before launching their “assault.”

Allahabad: After hearing the results of the student union elections at Allahabad University on Friday, RSS affiliate Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members torched hostel rooms and threw crude bombs.

ABVP had to face defeat in the Allahabad University Students’ Union (AUSU) elections as Samajwadi Party-affiliated students won majority posts. In a clear message of the time to come and the answer to Mohan Bhagwat’s attack on the constitution, the results were especially shocking for ABVP as they had led a high decibel campaign for the polls.

“Uday Prakash Yadav of the Samajwadi Chatra Sabha (SCS) defeated his ABVP rival Atendra Singh by 774 votes. Akhilesh Yadav of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) bagged the vice president’s seat by securing 2,157 votes. ABVP managed to win only one post. Its candidate Shivam Singh secured 2,823 votes to be elected as general secretary, while the joint secretary post went to Satyam Singh aka Sunny of the SCS. The cultural secretary post was bagged by NSUI’s Aditya Singh, who got 1,832 votes,” reported New Click.

Hostel rooms of the newly elected President Uday Prakash Yadav and former President Awanish Yadav in the Holland Hall hostel were burned among other rooms. Awanish’s car was also set on fire. A lot of furniture, documents, and clothes were gutted in the fire.

Witnesses also spoke about supporters of losing ABVP candidates threw crude bombs and burned other vehicles like motorbikes as well.

Speaking with Newsclick, newly elected president Uday Prakash Yadav said, “ABVP’s candidate for president, Atendra Pratap Singh, along with more than seven other ABVP members entered the Holland Hall hostel, and started a brawl when they found out that they have been defeated by a wide margin. This is RSS’s agenda and they are executing it inside the university. It was all pre-planned. My room was set on fire.”

“Some unidentified persons also exploded crude bombs at KPUC Hostel gate in which inspector Daraganj Vineet Singh was injured. Police sources said at least four persons have been detained in connection with the arson at Holland Hall Hostel,” reported Hindustan Times.

Uday Prakash Yadav said that the police did not act promptly to the incident. “This is not an ordinary incident. But the police administration is silent because the BJP, known for its misuse of government machinery, has induced a cracking defeat,” said Yadav, who is a first-year law student from Deoria in a report by The Hindu.

The situation was brought under control after the police began their lathi charge and arrested some students from the scene. The situation remains tense at the university.

BHU

Varanasi: Members of the RSS affiliated Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) attacked students of Banaras Hindu University celebrating the anniversary of gender rights protest that had taken the university by storm last year. They attacked the students on Sunday, the one-year anniversary of the 23 September women’s protest against the victim shaming of a sexual harassment survivor and discriminatory hostel rules.

A street play and open mic were organised to commemorate the day and press for demands but the students participating were beaten up and assaulted. It is said that the police and the BHU Chief Proctor Royana Singh were silent spectators.

It seems that the resistance towards campus patriarchy and sexist rules was met with fierce opposition from ABVP. On 23 September, it is said that students were lathi-charged for over 50 hours. The demands of that movement were

  1. Strict action and investigation against perpetrators of sexual harassment.
  2. Gender sensitization awareness programs for administrative staff and teachers in the premises.
  3. Removal of all curfew timings for all students meant to keep them as hostages.
  4. No discrimination between utensils and food for any student in the women’s dorms.
  5. Establish GSCASH (Gender Sensitisation Committee and Sexual Harassment)
  6. Make gender sensitization compulsory at faculty and institutional level.

Boys and girls who had gathered to commemorate the movement and pay their respects in a peaceful manner were assaulted by ABVP goons who were shouting slogans like “Jai Shri Ram,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Vande Mataram,” “Chinese loyalists should be beaten with shoes,” and more. There are reports of sexual harassment and shameful verbal abuse and threats directed at women. The students argue that the police and the university authorities looked on as this was happening in front of them. The students were also beaten with sticks while journalists are also said to have been attacked.

Students said that the anti-women and anti-student university hired these goons to silence them and watched the show while they were being assaulted. They said that the attack was sponsored by the university to silence the women students.

An FIR was also registered. “While ten students were named in the FIR, around a dozen unknown outsiders have also been booked for offences under Sections 147, 354, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC. As per the complaint, the accused students, allegedly belonging to the ABVP and other outside elements, disrupted the event at Malviya Gate on Sunday evening when the girls were holding nukkad nataks and other cultural programmes to mark their struggle against hostel rules and for gender equality. “When we protested [against them for using foul language and harassing us], they got aggressive and started assaulting those present,” read the complaint by one of the students. The students alleged that they were also threatened with dire consequences. Last September, girls of the BHU had led a campaign against the administration demanding a gender-just space and security for women students,” reported The Hindu.

After being squarely trounced in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) election, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have reportedly resorted to multiple acts of violence on the JNU campus in New Delhi. Large mobs of ABVP members have reportedly attacked many student leaders including some of the newly elected office bearers of the students union.

JNUSU

JNUSU ex-president Geeta Kumari who witnessed the attacks said, “Today our comrades Pawan Kaushik and Ashutosh Abhinay were brutally beaten up by ABVP members,” adding that the attack looked like a “mob lynching”. She said she was also attacked by an ABVP member when she tried to help her friends. “While I was trying to save Abhinay I was also attacked by Saurabh Sharma”, she said adding that Sharma pulled her hand and pushed her, causing her to fall on the road near the Jhelum Hostel gate.

According to Geeta Kumari, when another student Jyoti tried to record the incident on video, she too was allegedly manhandled. But this did not stop Geeta and she tried to help the  newly elected JNUSU President, N Sai Balaji, as he was being mercilessly beaten. She said, “When they attacked N Sai Balaji, I tried to stop them, but he (Sharma) threatened me saying that he would cut my neck off!”

Earlier, ABVP had also allegedly disrupted the counting process after the elections took place. However, once counting resumed, the Left Unity, a coalition of All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF) and All India Students’ Federation (AISF), swept all 4 key seats in JNUSU. N Sai Balaji was elected as the President, Sarika Chaudhary as the Vice President, Aejaz Ahmed Rather as the General Secretary and Amutha Jayadeep as the Joint Secretary.

After the JNUSU election results came out, the frustration of the ABVP became visible. The voter turn-out in the current election was 67.8%, which is being seen as the highest in the recent years with over 5000 students casting their vote. Students were rejoicing the victory of Left and defeat of ABVP in the elections.

https://www.facebook.com/nsai.balaji/videos/pcb.10211072779529598/10211072745648751/?type=3

Commenting on the fresh bout of violence that reportedly began after midnight, N. Sai Balaji said, “Today ABVP students randomly attacked students. I was called to the scene at Sutjel (hostel). As elected JNUSU President I went to ensure Pawan Meena’s safety who was attacked by ABVP students with sticks. Upon reaching what I saw was mayhem. The mob led by Saurabh Sharma was baying for blood of any student they thought a friend of Pawan Meena and were attacking students with sticks.”

He confirmed being thretened by the ABVP members saying, “They openly threatened me, Geeta and other students present there with dire consequences if we intervened to stop the violence.”  In his words, Abhinay was “almost lynched”. Sai Balaji ran with other students to save him. But Abhinay lost consciousness after the brutal attack. Sai Balaji then took him to the ambulance so he could get medical aid.

However, it did not stop there. He added, “What happened next was terrifying. I was again threatened by the mob and fearing my safety some students asked me to sit inside the PCR (police) vehicle. However the mob led by Ashutosh Mishra and Saurabh Sharma stopped the PCR vehicle and got an ABVP student to sit beside me. These two students were repeatedly stopping the PCR and threatening me. To my surprise Saurabh Sharma stopped the PCR between Jhelum and Sutlej and the ABVP student sitting inside the PCR van opened the door. Upon opening more threats were given to me and I was physically assaulted inside the PCR van by ABVP students.”

In a state of shock and fearing his own safety, Sai Balaji asked the PCR to take him to Vasant Kunj Police station. However, there his health deteriorated and he had to come back to hostel to take medication. But he plans to lodge the FIR soon.

After this incident, reportedly, the ABVP members led mobs to different parts of the JNU campus, including Sutlej, Mahi Mandavi and Damodar to “create a fear psychosis in the atmosphere”. Over a dozen faculty members who had gone to the police station to ensure that no harm came to the students who had gone there to report the incident, now found themselves in the ABVP’s crosshairs. Over 50 people allegedly blocked both gates to the police station and are allegedly pointing out various faculty members to others in the mob. This may lead to targeted violence when they eventually leave the police station. Meanwhile, the police have allegedly taken no action to disperse the mob that is openly threatening the JNUSU office bearers.

The attacks on student activists and even ordinary students began last night and have continued during the day.

The said incident took place on Monday as the ABVP’s vice-presidential candidate, Shakti Singh, had gone for college campaigning. When Shakti Singh and other members of ABVP were denied entry by the college guard, they resorted to violence and ran amok on the premises wielding sticks and raising slogans, breaking flower pots and furniture.

“I don’t know how it started, but I was shocked to hear the commotion. They vandalised college property, broke chairs and threw flower pots. It was ABVP activists who beat up students; they even hit girls and staff” said the college principal Masroor Ahmad Baig. Police were then called in and the college is filing a complaint.

“Police personnel were present at the spot when the incident took place and they controlled the crowd. No complaint has been received from the college administration,” the DCP (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa, said.

“This all began when ABVP candidate Shakti Singh forcibly entered the college with 50-100 of his friends and started ransacking property. To protect ourselves we left the college and later picketed on road for hours demanding action,” Anoop, a student of the college, told IANS.
Disturbed by the unruliness of the ABVP members, students of the college picketed outside the college and demanded action against this incident of violence

In a video of the incident, men with placards around their necks, with ‘Shakti Singh’ written on them, can be seen lifting and breaking flower pots, chasing people with sticks, breaking chairs and littering the premises.

ABVP national media convenor Monika Chaudhary has denied the involvement of ABVP in the incident calling it a “fight” between two groups.

JNU again witnessed aggression in the name of ‘protest’ by students owing allegiance to the ABVP, a student wing of the supremacist, RSS. This was following the court summon letters that were pasted on the walls and doors of the hostels of nine students involved in the Najeeb Ahmad case. The JNU student Najeeb had gone missing from his hostel Periyar since October 16 last year.

On Thursday afternoon, a group of ABVP members carried out a demonstration in front of the Dean of the Students office demanding an adequate “protection” to the nine accused in the Najeeb Ahmad case. Incidentally, these are also the students who had assaulted Najeeb prior to his disappearance. The demonstration turned violent and resulted in the breaking of glass doors and flower pots out the Dean of the Students office.

The CBI officials who came over there to serve the notice to assaulters of Najeeb were obstructed until the rest of the student fraternity intervened and notices were served to the ABVP goons, said Mohit K Pandey, former JNU students’ union president.

“In JNU, the administration has been politically shielding those ABVP goons misusing the “power” vested with the administration, instead of taking any proper action on the act of such serious violence. Here, the JNU administration under the leadership of Mr Jagadesh Kumar has given full impunity to the assaulters of Najeeb. Exceeding all limits of such open political shielding, this time, the Associate Dean of Students -Mr. Buddha Singh, who is also the warden of Periyar hostel, tried to stop CBI from serving notices to the members of ABVP which was directed to CBI by the Delhi High Court”,  said former general secretary Satarupa Chakraborty speaking to the media.

“Whenever the students protested against the biasness of the administration towards Najeeb’s assaulters, the administration has countered them with fake cases”, Satarupa added.

“Recently 15 students have been framed for they were opposing UGC Gazette, Show cause notices were served from the Proctor’s office to students including the former JNUSU Joint Secretary Tabrez Hasan for supposedly ‘manhandling’ Mr. Buddha Singh who showed the audacity to raid even girls hostels violating the established rules and procedures of the university. Whereas full impunity is given to Najeeb’s assaulters,” she pointed out the recent incidents.

On October 16, the Patiala Court had asked CBI to seriously investigate and issue notices to the nine accused as the investigating agency had failed to produce any new leads in the case.
