Ajmer Blast

In a surprise move, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Urdu Arabi Farsi University at Lucknow has decided to confer honorary D Litt on RSS leader Indresh Kumar, who was an accused in a 2007 bomb blast incident at the Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti Dargah in Ajmer, and an accused in the murder of another Hindutva worker Sunil Joshi.

Protesting against the move, top social and political activist Sandeep Pandey, who is vice president of the Social Party (India), and Mohammad Shoaib, advocate, who is the party’s president, said, “The vice chancellor of this university, Mahrukh Mirza, whose own educational qualifications are alleged to be suspect, should be asked what contribution Indresh Kumar has made to the society to deserve a D Litt?”

Pointing out that Kumar would be served the honorary degree on at the university convocation to be held today ( November 21, 2019), Pandey and Shoaib said in a statement, “Ironically Indresh Kumar serves as margdarshak of Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), associated with RSS, and Mahrukh Mirza is associated with MRM”.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2017 filed a closure report in the 2007 Ajmer Dargah blast case, declaring that it did not have “enough evidence” of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Indresh Kumar’s involvement in the terrorist bombing of the Ajmer shrine that killed three persons and injured over a dozen.
The statement says, the move comes amidst the BJP government at the Centre “refusing to enter into a dialogue for the past 25 days with the agitating students demanding rollback of fee hike at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi”, and students “subscribing to sectarian Hindutva ideology are protesting against the appointment of Dr Firoz Khan in the Department of Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, merely because he is a Muslim.”

The statement recalls Madan Mohan Malviya, BHU founder, as saying, “This country doesn’t belong to Hindus alone. It belongs to Muslims, Christians and Parsis too. It will become strong and developed only when there is communal harmony among different communities living here.”. It adds, “Malviya is known to have brought scholars of different ideological backgrounds from around the world to teach at BHU. The protestors need to ask whether the founder of the university would have agreed with their logic.”

Ajmer, Rajasthan  :  A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Monday (22 MAR 2017) sentenced Bhavesh Patel and Devendra Gupta both RSS members to life imprisonment for their conviction in the Ajmer Dargah blast case.

The blast which took place on 11 October 2007, at the Shrine of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti at the time of Roza Iftaar, had left three pilgrims dead and 17 others injured.

On 8 March 2017, the NIA court had convicted Patel, Gupta and Sunil Joshi in the case while acquitting others including Swami Aseemanand. Sunil Joshi murdered soon after the blast. This case has come to special court on 16 march but after hearing from both the parties court had postponed the judgement to 23rd March .

Judge Dinesh Gupta ruled out a death sentence citing mitigating circumstances, including the fact that the two had not been involved in any criminal activity prior to the blasts; they hadn’t been shown to be a constant menace to society; and they had been found guilty by drawing inferences from circumstantial evidence.

The case was handed over to the ATS Rajasthan and was later transferred to NIA which re-registered the case with the NIA police station in New Delhi on 6 April 2011.

In this case there were 12 accused, There were as many as 149 witnesses in the case and 451 documents were examined and the NIA filed three supplementary charge sheets in the case.

At the same time, the court questioned the NIA on its clean chit to two other accused, Ramesh Gohil and Amit, as well as “suspicious persons” such as senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar, Pragya Singh, Rajenda Chaudhary and Jayant, stating that it could not be done without invoking appropriate sections of the CrPC. It ordered the NIA DGP to do so by March 28. Ramesh Gohil died recently.

Has Media being biased?
Invoking ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family)’, Sharma sought appropriate sentences for the guilty, adding that “apart from Muslims, Hindus also come in large numbers to pay obeisance at the (Ajmer) shrine and the aim of the bomb blast in the holy month of Ramzan was to spread terror between the two communities and to prevent Hindus from going to the shrine.”

But none in the media mentioned these convicted terrorists as ‘Terrorist’ which applies on a particular community for even lesser crime. Has media being under control or they have taken charge to label accordingly?

A special NIA court has acquitted terror accused Swami Aseemanand in the Ajmer blast case. The court, however, found three men guilty.

Last year, Aseemanand was granted bail in Samjhauta Express blasts case, where he’s the prime accused.

This came after the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is controlled by the central government, decided not to oppose the conditional bail granted to Aseemanand, chargesheeted in the 2007 Samjhauta blasts case.

This was stated by Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary in Lok Sabha while replying to a written question by Asaduddin Owaisi of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) last month.

The Narendra Modi government had also declined to grant permission to challenge a bail order granted to two other Hindutva terror accused in the Mecca Masjid blasts case, Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma, on the “grounds of parity” since bail had been granted to Bharat Mohal Lal and Tejaram Parmar which had not been challenged by the prosecution.

More to come
