In a shocking incident, firebrand SP leader and former president of Allahabad university students Union, Richa Singh received death and rape threats on calls and messages.

Speaking to sabrangindia, Richa Singh said that unprintable and very serious threats including rape were made to her . While the police acted and arrested the accused , there seems to be political pressure now following which a cross FIR has also been lodged against Richa. Unfazed, she said ” if someone like me, in public life can get rape threats and end up with an FIR, imagine what an ordinary girl in UP has to go through “

The incident only highlights the circumstances under which women politicians have to function, especially if they are vocal against the present regime.

Police Brutality leaves Youth Leader Richa Singh with Internal Head Injuries

After being brutally assaulted during a Peace March in Allahabad on Tuesday, youth leader and Samajwadi Party spokesperson Richa Singh has now been diagnosed with internal head injuries.

The injuries were discovered during an MRI scan at a hospital on Wednesday morning. Communicating exclusively with Teesta Setalvad on Wednesday, the former student leader said, “I have sustained internal head injury due to yesterday’s police assault in Allahabad. It was revealed today after MRI. I had to be hospitalised again this morning.”

Singh suspects that she was singled out by the cops and targeted specifically given her history of protests against the Adityanath administration. Singh holds the distinction of being the first woman to be elected President of the Allahabad University Students Union and has organised black flag protests against Adityanath. “I was specifically targeted by the police because of vendetta,” she said.

SP leader Akhilesh Yadav was to address University students at a program in Allahabad on that day, but the administration did not even allow him to board his flight from Lucknow. This led to Richa and other student leaders participating in a Peace March to protest the administrations heavy-handedness.

Richa Singh was allegedly left bleeding and unconscious on the road. When some of the protesters tried to take her to a hospital, the police promptly arrested her and whisked her away to the police station! She was admitted to hospital only later. SP Chhatra Sabha leader Illyas Adnan who was at the spot said, “Richa Singh sustained head injuries and they also broke two of her teeth! She fell unconscious but we were not even allowed to take her to the hospital. She was arrested and taken to police lines!”

Breaking: Richa Singh Assaulted, left Unconscious in Allahabad

Youth leader and spokesperson Samajwadi Party (SP) Richa Singh was attacked in Allahabad on Tuesday afternoon. She was allegedly physically assaulted by police personnel and left bleeding and unconscious on the road.

When some of the protesters tried to take her to a hospital, the police promptly arrested her and whisked her away to the police station!

SP Chhatra Sabha leader Illyas Adnan who was at the spot shed light on the incident saying, “SP leader Akhilesh Yadav was to address University students at a program here today, but the administration did not even allow him to board his flight from Lucknow. MP Dhananjay Yadav then addressed the nearly 10,000 strong crowd that had gathered here to hear Akhilesh Yadav. We then commenced a Shanti March. Richa Singh and several student leaders were present in the march. That’s when the police attacked us!”

Adnan added, “They beat up several SP leaders including Dhananjay Yadav, Azamgarh MLA Sangram Yadav and also Mahindra Patel from Phulpur who were present at the protest. But were particularly brutal in the manner in which they beat up Richa Singh. She sustained head injuries and they also broke two of her teeth! She fell unconscious but we were not even allowed to take her to the hospiatl. She was arrested and taken to police lines!”

Richa Singh is a feisty former student leader and holds the distinction of becoming the first woman President of the Allahabad University Students Union in its 119 year history. She has been a constant thorn in the flesh for the Adityanath administration. She had earlier been subject to police brutality and institutional violence for protesting Adityanath’s visit to the University and showing him black flags.
