The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) coalition group on January 18, 2021 disassociated itself from the all-party meeting taken up by Haryana  Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni.

In a short statement addressing the various rumours spreading about the Haryana leader, the SKM farmer leaders said that they have formed a committee to inquire into Chaduni’s involvement with political parties.

It was alleged that Chaduni on January 17 met with various political leaders at Delhi Constitution Club after sending them letters to discuss the on-going farmers’ struggle against the  Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance & Farm Services Act, the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.

“The SKM, after taking note of Mr Chaduni’s ongoing activities with political parties, after due discussion on the same in a general body meeting of SKM yesterday [Sunday,] has formed a Committee that will… give its report in 3 days’ time,” said the SKM in its statement.

The organisation further said that it will take further actions based on the findings of the report. Regarding the involvement of political parties, farmer leaders previously declared that no political parties would be allowed to enter the protest.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar previously blamed Chaduni for violence at one of the meeting sites near Karnal where Khattar was to explain the benefits of the three laws.
