But Modiji is a noble man and Gandhi’s ghost probably urged to be replaced in khadi. Although Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the nation,but he was obviously not good enough. Maybe Gandhi’s ghost realized that and sent Mahatma Modi to us, and a new ‘son of the nation’ is born! He shall be our salvation.

People actually believe the Modi suit was made by machines and workers; little do they know that it was an original piece from the famous Charkha by Gandhi himself.

According to news agency IANS, the cover photo of this year’s calendar and diary shows Modi weaving khadi on a large ‘charkha’, in the same classic pose as Gandhiji.

Modi’s image of wearing kurta-pyjama-waistcoat while weaving khadi on a slightly modern charkha has replaced Gandhi’s trademark photo of weaving khadi on a simple charkha and wearing his trademark loin cloth.

KVIC Chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena, said that there was nothing unusual about the decision.

He told IANS, “The entire khadi industry (udyog) is based on Gandhiji’s philosophy, ideas and ideals, he is the soul of KVIC, so there is no question of ignoring him.

“In fact, he is khadi’s biggest brand ambassador, and his vision matches KVIC’s, of ‘Make In India’ by making villages self-sufficient, ‘skill development’ by generating employment among the rural masses, infuse modern technology for khadi weaving, innovations and marketing. Plus, the PM is a youth icon.”

As expected, the decision hasn’t gone down well with the employees of KVIC and staff working at its Vile Parle headquarters organised “a silent, soul-cleansing” protest wearing black bands on their mouths on Thursday.

One senior employee, while wishing to remain anonymous, said, “We are pained at this systematic easing out of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas, philosophy and ideals by the government. Last year, the first attempt was made by including the PM’s photos in the calendar.”

KVIC falls under the union ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises.

महात्मा गांधी की इस श्वेत-श्याम तस्वीर फोटोग्राफर मार्गरेट बौर्के-व्हाइट ने ली थी। तस्वीर में गांधी भूमि पर पतले गद्दे पर बैठकर खबर पढ़ते हुये नजर आ रहे हैं जबकि उनके आगे उनका चरखा रखा है।

तस्वीर भारत के नेताओं पर एक लेख के लिए ली गई थी लेकिन इसके प्रकाशित होने के दो वर्ष से पहले और गांधी की हत्या के बाद इसे श्रद्धांजलि के रूप में प्रमुखता से प्रकाशित किया गया था।

भाषा की खबर के अनुसार, टाइम पत्रिका ने कहा, ‘‘बहुत जल्द ही यह अमर हो चुकी एक तस्वीर बन गई थी।’’ टाइम के संकलन में 1820 के दशक से 2015 तक की अवधि में ली गई सबसे मशहूर और इतिहास को बदलने वाली 100 तस्वीरों को शामिल किया गया है।

जिस समय ये तस्वीरें ली गई थी उस समय यह लोगों के मन में रच-बस गई थीं।
