On June 30, the Gorakhpur Police arrested Ashish Raj Srivastava alias Bholu and claimed that he was the actual shooter. Srivastava, who has been an employee of Adeel Ahmed, was released the next day. But after being released from police custody, Srivastava aka Bholu alleged the Gorakhpur police of trying to torture him in an attempt to make him accept the charge that he shot at Kashif Kameel on June 9.

 Bholu’s arrest also becomes suspicious because he was arrested just a day after Kashif’s family met Yogi Adityanath, the state’s chief minister, requesting him to refer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Even the family of Kashif Jameel raised questions over the arrest and alleged violent interrogation of Srivastava and said that the police is doing so because they have apparently failed to arrest the real culprit in the case.

Kashif Jameel was shot in Gorakhpur on June 9 night at around 10 pm. Jameel was shot near the famous Gorakhnath Temple by two unidentified gunmen who approached Kashif on a Honda Activa. One gunman was wearing a helmet while the other had a towel wrapped around his head. Kashif sustained three bullet injuries: on the right side of the neck, right shoulder, and right forearm.

Following this, on the night of July 2, the Police registered a case against Adeel Ahmed Khan and his friend Faizan at Cantt Police Station under sections 419, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of Indian Penal Code. The Police registered a case following a complaint filed by Muzaffar Alam Khan, a resident of Sheshpur, Gorakhpur.

But even before the police action, Adeel Ahmed told media persons on the evening of July 2 that there was a plot to book him and his brothers under false cases. During the interaction with the media, Adeel also predicted correctly that Muzaffar Alam would be the complainant as he was under pressure to do the same.

It is interesting to note that during a press conference on June 17, a week after the attack on Kashif Jameel, Kafeel Ahmed Khan named Kamlesh Paswan, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Basgaon, his partner Satish Nangalia, Muzaffar and Shamim for hiring shooters to kill Kashif Jameel.

Now, the fresh case against Adeel Ahmed, according to his family members, has been filed after the “manipulation” caused by Kamlesh Paswan.

The Gorakhpur police, however, said that Muzaffar Alam, in his complaint to Senior Superintendent of Police in Gorakhpur, accused Mohammad Faizan of opening a bank account in Union Bank by using Alam’s photograph. Reportedly, Alam also told the police that over transactions over Rs 2 crore through the same account was conducted and monitored by Faizan, charges which Kashif Jameel’s family deny. Following the latest chain of events, Adeel Ahmed has stopped taking media calls.

Dr. Kafeel Khan told Sabrang that “this is a big conspiracy to hide their failure to catch those culprits who tried to kill my brother, and to keep my mouth shut…about the massacre that happened at BRD Medical College.” According to him, days ago the police got one Ashish Srivastav and beat him “very badly,” but Dr. Khan said he did not believe Srivastav was involved in his brother’s shooting. Of this most recent FIR, Dr. Khan alleged that “initially they tried to put my name also, but in 2009, I was in Manipal, so they couldn’t put my name…they put my brother’s name.” 

An FIR was registered alleging that Adeel and Faizan opened a bank account in Faizan’s name, but submitted a photograph of one Muzaffar Alam. The driver’s license used to open the account reportedly had a photograph of Alam. However, another report has claimed that the license belonged to one Mohammed Zaheer.  It was also alleged that the account was used for a Rs. 2 crore transaction. 

Alam alleged to SSP Shalabh Mathur that, in 2009, Adeel and Faizan opened a bank account using his photograph and fake documents. “A complaint from Mudassar Alam was received regarding a bank account at the Union Bank of India and transaction of Rs 2 crore made from it,” the SSP said. The complaint was investigated by Kotwali Circle Officer Atul Chaube, and, according to the SSP, “The CO Kotwali during probe found that the complaint was true as the bank account was opened at the main branch of the bank in the name of Mohammad Faizan in which photograph of Mudassar Alam was used and the driving license used was also fake“. 

Cantt police station Inspector Chandrabhan Singh said that a case was registered against Adeel Khan and Faizan under Indian Penal Code sections that included 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc) , and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record). 

This case is the latest development for the Khan family, which has been beset since last year, after Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested in September 2017, following the deaths of more than 20 children at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College, allegedly due to a shortage of oxygen. Khan spent several months in jail before being granted bail by the Allahabad High Court earlier this year, in April. On June 10, Dr. Khan’s other brother, Kashif Jameel, was shot by bike-borne assailants in Gorakhpur. 

Meanwhile, the Times of India reported that in a press conference on Monday, July 2, Adeel Khan said, “Police is trying to frame me, Kafeel and Kashif Jameel in a fake case. It is putting pressure on one Muzaffar Alam of Shekhpur area in Gorakhpur to change date on an old complaint and lodge FIR against us at Cant or Kotwali police station,” adding, “Police is not able to solve the case of attack on my brother Kashif as big names are involved in it. Now they are trying to frame us in fake case”. Adeel has reportedly previously written to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that an honest police officer investigate his younger brother’s shooting. He also met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, June 29, seeking a CBI investigation into the attack on his brother. 

Dr. Kafeel Khan has accused Bansgaon’s BJP MP, Kamlesh Paswan, of being involved in his brother’s shooting, but Paswan has denied this allegation. Dr. Kafeel Khan has also alleged that the August 2017 deaths of the children were due to a “total administrative failure,” and that alleged that he is “being falsely implicated in the case”.

Lucknow: Dr. Kafeel Khan fears for the safety of his family ever since his brother Kashif Jameel was shot near Gorakhnath Mandir, Uttar Pradesh CM’s residence.
 
His brother Adeel Ahmad Khan wrote to the CM on Friday requesting him to conduct a CBI enquiry into the matter and provide justice. He also mentions that SP Vinay Kumar Singh and CO Gorakhnath Pravin Singh delayed the urgent medical attention needed by his brother Kashif Jameel by four hours and being complicit in his attack.
 
“My brother Kashif Jameel’s medico-legal was already completed by Dr. Wajahat Karim in Star Hospital, Lucknow. CO Gorakhnath, Pravin Singh, received a phone call from SP Vinay Kumar I think, to transfer Kashif Jameel to BRD Medical for medico-legal. The hospital didn’t have MCH or neurosurgeon available and referred the patient to KGMC Lucknow. They also said that the medico-legal can’t be done twice. It is common knowledge that a second medico-legal is only required if a board under the jurisprudence of district inspector or the chief health inspector asks for it,” he wrote to the CM. He mentioned that Dr. Kafeel Khan and Dr. Ranvijay were present throughout the ordeal.

 
He also stated that the officers wasted four hours so that they could finish the work the attackers had started. “It has been declared by the Supreme Court that a person needs to treated before any investigation is conducted but rules were not followed by the police inspectors. When the bullets were removed from my brother’s body and the threat to his life had abated, the police officers slowed down their investigation and under pressure from local and media, they assured justice. They have still not found the culprits or the motive behind the attack and are dragging their feet on the issue to save MP Kamlesh Paswan. They are also giving false information to the media and misdirecting the investigation,” he said in the letter.
 
“The SP and CO are trying to kill my brother and hence I am requesting a CBI enquiry in this matter. We also sent a letter on June 14 to the DGP seeking his help and he also assured of action and arrest of attackers. No investigation on the attackers has been conducted and no arrests have been made. No investigation on the police officers has begun either. I request you to conduct a CBI investigation and investigate the attackers and the police and provide justice,” he said.
 
Sabrang India had reported that Dr. Kafeel Khan had accused BJP MP Kamlesh Paswan and his three associated of attacking his brother Kashif Jameel in a press conference on June 17. Jameel was shot thrice by bike-borne men on June 10. Sabrang India had also reported on Dr. Kafeel Khan’s statement right after the incident in which he described how crucial time was wasted by the police to save his brother.
 
Dr. Kafeel Khan was in charge of the paediatrics wing at BRD Medical where about 66 children died due to lack of oxygen. He was removed and arrested on charges of negligence and was granted bail by the Allahabad court this April for lack of evidence.

Gorakhpur: Dr. Kafeel Khan’s brother was shot thrice on Sunday night by two bike-borne assailants in Gorakhpur, UP. Kashif Jameel, 34, is a businessman and was returning home late night when he was shot and the miscreants fled. His condition is stated to be stable and he is in the ICU.
 
Though he actually saved lives by garnering the desperately required oxygen cylinders, he was accused of being involved in the BRD Medical tragedy where almost 60 children died due to the lack of oxygen in August 2017. He was recently granted bail in May after spending eight months behind bars. He had said that he feared for his own and his family’s life and was being made a scapegoat in the tragedy.
 
On the night of June 10, his fears came true. “Around 11 pm, in the Humayunpur north area near the JP hospital in Gorakhpur, some bike-borne miscreants shot at Kashif Jameel. He sustained injuries on his right upper arm, neck, and chin,” Kotwali police station Inspector Ghanshyam Tiwari said in a report by Firstpost.
 
“He was shot near the famous Gorakhnath Temple by two unknown gunmen who came near Kashif with an Activa. One gunman was wearing a helmet while other had a towel wrapped around his head. Kashif has sustained three bullet injuries. One on the neck, one on the shoulder and last one on the forearm. All three wounds have been reported on the right side of the body. He is being treated at the Star Hospital in Gorakhpur,” an earlier report by Sabrang India stated.
 
Their brother Adil Ahmad Khan said in an interview that whoever shot at him had all the intentions to kill him. Their mother Nuzhat Parveen asked the government to provide police protection to her family and it was unfortunate that this happened in the holy month of Ramzan.
 
At 5 am today, Dr. Khan posted a video on his twitter profile recounting the whole ordeal.

 
Dr. Khan said that he was not going to bend. He stated that the operation was successful and the bullets were removed. “First, I thank everyone. Because of their good wishes, the operation was successful. The bullets have been removed. He is in ICU. He is fine. He was shot at thrice. Jameel was shot just 500 metres away from Gorakhnath temple which is CM Yogi Adityanath’s home. Two people came on a scooty. They shot at him and ran away. I don’t know why they did this. The police caused unnecessary delay in getting him urgent treatment. They insisted on taking him to Sadar Hospital for medicolegal and then for a second medicolegal at the BRD Medical College. When we resisted, five jeeps of policemen came and forcefully escorted us to the medical college. The police wasted precious time from 10 pm to 2.30 am,” he said. Jameel’s surgery reportedly took place at 2 am, three hours after the firing and Dr. Khan insisted that crucial time was wasted.
 
Shalabh Mathur, SSP, Gorakhpur told ANI that no written complaint has been filed by the family yet.
 
Dr. Khan was in charge of the paediatrics wing at BRD Medical and had arranged oxygen cylinders from a private hospital when the incident occurred last year. He was removed and arrested on charges of negligence. He wrote a letter from jail detailing his actions and how he procured cylinders and paid off suppliers with his own money to save children at the hospital.
