Mohd Qasim and Samiuddin were attacked by men and children from neighbouring villages in Pilkhuwa, near Hapur, UP. The incident took place in the wake of the rumours that the duo had tried to slaughter a cow. While Samiuddin survived, Qasim succumbed to his injuries. In accordance with the pattern of such murderous assaults on the marginalised and the minorities, Qasim and Samiuddin were targeted simply for their Muslim identity, when there was no evidence of any cow slaughter.
