Eight persons were arrested after a 23-year-old man, identified as Nandhu, was hacked to death, allegedly by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers. The SDPI workers had allegedly clashed with a group of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers in the Alappuzha district of Kerala on Wednesday night. According to news reports, Nandhu has been identified as an RSS worker. Police said the clash occured after provocation from both sides, reported the Muslim Mirror, adding that a total of eight SDPI workers have been arrested in the case so far.

Nandhu, was killed allegedly by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers after they clashed with RSS men near Vayalar town in Alappuzha. The SDPI is the political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI). According to the police, Nandhu was attacked with sharp objects was taken to a hospital but he succumbed to his grievous injuries on the way, reported the Muslim Mirror. Nandhu was cremated on Thursday.

Times Now reported that senior BJP leader and Union Minister V Muraleedharan said that the Left, as well as Congress, were encouraging “terror outfits like Popular Front of India” to nurture their vote bank. BJP state president K Surendran alleged that the Popular Front of India (PFI) is a ‘terror organisation’ and urged the Pinarayi Vijayan government to impose a ban on the outfit. It may be noted that SDPI is a political offshoot of the PFI.

At least six others, belonging to both the SDPI and the RSS, who were also said to be injured in the clash have been admitted to various hospitals in Alappuzha and Ernakulam. One of the injured workers of the RSS is said to be serious, stated the news report.

According to a report in Times Now, hundreds of BJP-RSS workers gathered outside the Government Medical College Hospital, where a postmortem of the body was carried out. Nandhu’s body was carried to the crematorium and the procession was taken out. Section 144 has been imposed in two districts of Kerala after violence was reported in parts of the district on Thursday.  Meanwhile, the situation remains tense in the Alappuzha district of the state, where 17 people are still believed to be absconding, reported Times Now.

Meanwhile, the BJP had announced a shutdown in the Alappuzha district on Thursday, to protest the violence against their workers. According to news reports, tension had been brewing in the area following a recent march by the SDPI in protest against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath’s visit to inaugurate BJP’s Vijay Yatra from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram, stated news reports. It was then that the area had back-to-back protest marches by the two groups.

According to news reports, SDPI issued a statement on Thursday, claiming that “The attack by RSS against the march by SDPI was planned. There should be an inquiry into the death of RSS worker” it added that four SDPI workers have been hospitalised with serious injuries.

According to the SDPI it was “holding rallies in each constituency ahead of elections when the rally reached Vayalar,” it claimed that the “RSS workers tried to disrupt the rally but SDPI continued and the RSS workers, who came with weapons, attacked our workers.”

The BJP also alleged that the killing of an RSS worker was planned, and that two of its workers are in critical condition.

RSS worker Himmat Patidar, 36, who tried to fake his death by killing HIS farm help and passing off the body as his own, was arrested by Ratlam Police from a temple Dharamshala in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district late on Wednesday.

Pratapgarh: RSS worker Himmat Patidar, 36, who tried to fake his death by killing a farm help and passing off the body as his own, was arrested by Ratlam Police from a temple Dharamshala in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district late on Wednesday, a report by Indian Express said.

The report added that he boarded a bus and later took a train to Indore. From there he took a bus to Ujjain. Then he reached a temple in Pratapgarh where he took a dharmashala room on rent for Rs. 10.

“Himmat told the police that he owed Rs. 26 lakh to some people. He thought he would not have to return it and his family will get Rs 20 lakh insurance money if he faked his death. He also took a loan of Rs 50,000 from a trader a day before the murder. The police recovered Rs 48,715 from him, a copy of Hanuman Chalisa and a chit carrying phone numbers of his family members,” the report said.

Himmat Patidar, who is believed to be a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist from Ratlam, allegedly killed his farm labourer Madan Malviya last week and burned his face to pass off the body as his own in order to mislead the police and claim the insurance money totalling Rs 20 lakh to repay his debts.

Ratlam Additional Superintendent of Police Pradip Sharma said Patidar had initially tried to sever Malviya’s head. When he could not, Patidar burned Malviya’s face and planted his mobile phone, Aadhaar card, and a diary near Malviya’s body, Sharma said.

Police have established the identity of the deceased Malviya through DNA test, Ratlam Superintendent of Police Gaurav Tiwari told reporters in a press conference.

BJP had raised a huge stink over an RSS worker’s murder in Madhya Pradesh and pointed fingers at the new Congress government in power, accusing them of deteriorating law and order in the state.

Himmat Patidar and Madan Malviya.

Ratlam: BJP had raised a huge stink over an RSS worker’s murder in Madhya Pradesh and pointed fingers at the new Congress government in power, accusing them of deteriorating law and order in the state.

Patidar is alive and is on the run, a senior police officer said.

Tiwari said police had initially suspected Malviya had killed Patidar, but they grew suspicious after finding a diary near the body which contained details like Patidar’s insurance number, fixed deposits, bank PIN numbers. Police also found a mobile phone next to the body, but the call data had been erased.

“This prompted us to order DNA test of the victim,” Tiwari said adding that the test revealed that the body was that of Malviya’s and not Patidar’s.

The SP clarified that though Patidar used to attend RSS ‘shakhas’, he was not holding any post in the BJP’s parent organisation. Patidar’s brother Sanjay Patidar is said to be associated with the RSS. He is the district RSS music band chief. It was earlier reported that Patidar was a former Karyawah (secretary) of Shivpur Mandal.

Suggesting that Patidar’s planning was meticulous but for a flaw, the SP said the accused dressed the victim in his own clothes after killing him but didn’t change his under-pant, an oversight that revealed the true identity of the deceased.

“The accused failed to change the deceased’s underwear with his own which ultimately led to the identification of Malviya by his wife,” the senior police officer said.

When asked about the probable motive behind the crime, the SP said Patidar could have hatched the conspiracy to fake his own killing to claim the insurance sum totalling Rs 20 lakh to repay his loan.

“Patidar had got himself insured through the State Bank of India for Rs. 20 lakh sometime back and made his wife his nominee. He had taken some loan. He was also into money lending,” the SP said, adding that he might have plotted the crime to claim the insurance money to repay his debt.

Police have announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for any information on whereabouts of Patidar, the SP added.

Police are also probing whether Patidar’s family was involved in the crime, as it was his father who had informed them about his missing son. The SP said Patidar’s father had identified the body, whose face was burnt, as it was clad in the clothes worn by his son along with his belongings.

Referring to a tweet by former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan after the Ratlam murder, Home Minister Bala Bachchan Monday asked if Chouhan will also visit the house Malviya, a Dalit. “The BJP’s original character has come to light. Himmat Patidar has turned out to be killer. BJP workers are taking the law into their hands but the party is passing the blame to us,’’ Bachchan said in Bhopal.
