A petition has been filed in the top court seeking directions to the authorities to ensure safety and protection of the farmers, protesting at the Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders and also ensure the supply of basic amenities, according to LiveLaw.

The plea has been filed by Advocates Sanpreet Singh Ajmani and Pushpinder Singh through Advocate Manju Jaitley. They also sought an independent probe into the tragic death of a young boy Navneet Singh, during the tractor parade on January 26. He had allegedly sustained a gunshot injury. However, the post mortem report states “shock and hemorrhage as a result of ant mortem head injury” as the cause of death.

According to LiveLaw, the petitioners have stated that the incidents that took place on Republic Day appear to be “highly motivated” and a pre-planned attempt to throttle the voices of the poor farmers who have been agitating against the farm laws.

On the issue of false propaganda against the Sikh community, the petitioners have submitted that they are aggrieved by the false narrative and hate filled news that is being published by some of the news channels like AajTak, Republic Bharat, ABP news etc. and social media sites like Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc.

Further, they have appealed to the media to restrict themselves from spreading hate news against the entire community and have urged them to tender an unconditional apology for hurting their religious sentiments, terming them as “terrorists” and denoting their Nishaan Sahib as a “Khalistani Flag”.

Expressing their concerns over internet shutdowns, the petitioners have contended that this is a gross violation of their fundamental rights. As per LiveLaw reports, the petitioners have submitted that the protest sites have been heavily surrounded and guarded by police barricades, entry has been completely blocked, police officials are digging roads and there is heavy deployment of para military forces adding to the tension. They have also complained about the media being restricted at protest sites.

Yesterday, on February 2, the Delhi High Court refused to entertain a plea seeking the release of over 200 “illegally detained” farmers in connection with the violence that unfolded on Republic Day. However, the court directed the Police to conduct proper and time bound investigation into the matter.

Meo Muslims said that keeping aside all the other issues, they are now only worried about their safety.

Talking to senior journalist Bhasha Singh about the barbaric incidents of lynching, Meo Muslims said that keeping aside all the other issues, they are now only worried about their safety. They said they will vote very carefully in the upcoming elections. They love cow, which is their source of livelihood, but in the past four years, they haven’t dared to buy one. The Modi government has ignored their grief, and issues, and they are angry about it.

Mr Shirish Patel,  a well-known figure in urban planning, made an interesting suggestion  at a  citizens’ meeting earlier this year that  we should engage with politicians and  bring issues to their attention.

It  seemed to be fair enough.

Unfortunately,   politicians  do  know the issues but  not all  want to act on them.

An activist had brought the violations  involved  in  the Kamala Mill  fire to the attention of the BMC and yet it did not act . This also takes care of a point made by Shekhar Krishnan, research scholar , to me that I should follow up  my comments on civic issues  with the BMC.

At official press conferences the general experience is that if a journalist  raises an issue,   the response is that if the  journalist has a personal issue, it would be attended to soon , don’t   bother about public issues. We know what is happening and . What is your problem  ?  And so on.  It is not always like that.  Some times the authorities  are certainly serious.  At  public  interactions, the politician usually  issues a directive  –  give only concrete suggestions, meaning don’t   make complaints. So  the point is the authorities are  simply not interested in getting to know the truth.

Mr Patel made the suggestion at a meeting convened by the Mumbai Vikas Samiti in Dadar in  which the chief of the BMC’s   disaster management cell , Mr Narvekar,  spoke very confidently about the preparedness of  the civic body.

The trouble is the class character of  most prominent   politicians has changed over the years. They are now  in  the same hedonist, luxury-loving   class  as the people they should be asking questions.  The central  minister Babul Surpriyo    said  on TV  that he went through the list of the Kamala Mill fire victims to check if  there was anyone he knew. And the  articulate Mr Aditya Thackeray  said he  might as well have  been at the   restaurant  at Kamala mill   which underscores  his life style.  By the way, he has a bigger task ahead of him now since he is the  main spirit behind  the  civic decision to  let people   enjoy night life and shopping and eating out by extending their hours  This means people are actually going to be more vulnerable if   corrective steps are not taken.

If only our  architects, civil engineers,  food writers  speak out on such issues,  things will be better. I have so far noticed only one  intervention from the  gourmet class on the  Kamala mill restaurant.  Kunal Vijaykar mentioned  that there are so many  other such sites  including Todi mill compound.
