In 1997, the state reserve police force opened fire on dalit protesters at Ramabai Nagar, Mumbai as they protested the desecration of Babasaheb Ambdekar’s statue. In protest against the killings, poet Vilas Ghogre committed suicide. Sabrangindia went to Ramabai Nagar to gauge the mood of the locals in these elections.
