Protesters are ready to block all roads of Delhi if the central government does not repeal the three agriculture laws, said representative member of the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha Darshan Pal on December 2, 2020.
“Yesterday’s meeting proved that the central government’s attempt to restrict farmers’ protest to Punjab has failed. They have failed to divide us so now they are trying to placate us by suggesting small farmers committees,” said Pal.
President of the Kisan Krantikari Union clarified that the coalition of farmers organisations have no intention of creating a small committee. However, as per the central government’s request, members have agreed to draft a 10-page or longer report detailing farmers’ complaints with the three laws – the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020.
“At the end of every point we will demand the withdrawal of these laws, failing which we will continue our protest. The central government must have a special session for the repeal. If they continue discussions without any results, farmers will close in on all borders of Delhi,” he said.
As of the seventh day of farmers protest, four borders between Delhi and Haryana have been blocked, namely; Jharoda border, Jhatikra border, Singhu border and the Tikri border. Similarly, the Narela border and Ghazipur border have also reported farmers unrest.
Meanwhile, in response to the show of goodwill shown by sportspersons in India, farmer leaders asked artists, athletes across the country to return their national awards on December 7 as an expression of solidarity with farmers.
