In a major policy reversal, the Yogi Adityanath government in UP has passed an order doing away with the quota for SC/ST and OBC students in admission to post-graduate courses in private medical colleges.

It was the Mulayam Singh Yadav government which in 2006 had introduced the policy providing for quota for SC/ST and OBC students in admission for graduate and post-graduate courses in both government and private medical colleges.
The Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have yet to react to the policy reversal by Adityanath. Meanwhile, agitated students from SC/ST and OBC families aspiring to become doctors are agitated and are contemplating protest action.
It may be recalled that on more than occasion, the RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat has expressed himself against continuing with reservations for SCs/STs and OBCs.
